Dead Giveaways

Appearance is the biggest indicator:

  • Indistinct edges taht appear feathery, reading from the ONH in an arcuate fashion. It can sometimes affect the magnocellular pathway cells

diagnostic features

When observed, important to establish a baseline and then follow up every 3-6 months, then reviewed yearly for any change. If changes, refer to ophthalmologist or ocular oncologist.


Other Features:

  • Usually minimal growth and symptoms, but slowly growing ONH

  • Can lead to RAPD (30%), subretinal fluid (10%) and enlarged blind spot (75%)

  • Growth next to nerve can compress ON

  • Loss of vision + VF defects

  • CRVO if blood vessels are compressed
